Are you interested in becoming a Play It Forward Scholarship recipient?

We are now accepting applications for our pilot year! We have secured funding for a small number of students for our first year. If you would like to be considered, please fill out the application below.

The Play It Forward scholarship is open to dedicated middle and high school students with financial need or other obstacles to obtaining lessons without assistance. The system is based on three ideas:
  1. Targeting the most motivated recipients for scholarships has the largest impact on the recipients themselves as well as the communities around them. Students who pay for their own lessons are often exponentially more committed, and they learn about accountability at an early age.
  2. Music should be accessible to all. Those same motivated students whose families might lack the financial means for lessons are given the autonomy to obtain lessons for themselves.
  3. It takes a village. A "pay it forward" model fosters community connection through mutual benefit, teaches students that good comes from helping others, and doubles the impact of the scholarship by reaching beyond the recipient.

    Application Form

Before filling out the application form, please have the following information ready:
    • Names, phone numbers, and email addresses of the two people who will be submitting letters of recommendation for you.
    • Up to three specific volunteer organizations you would like to consider for your volunteer hours. These organizations should be 501(c)3 nonprofits; exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
As always, scholarship students are expected to maintain a high level of dedication and performance and will receive a progress review each semester from both their private teacher and volunteer supervisor.

Based on the application, select students will be invited to interview for any available scholarships.

    Section 4:Essay Questions

The following questions are to be answered by the student. Please make your answers as thorough as possible.
Please list at least one, and up to 3, specific organizations you would like to consider for your volunteer hours. PIF has partnerships with Trees Atlanta and Project Open Hand. You may include either of these if you wish, or you may list any other organizations you would like us to consider.
