ARTIST AFFILIATES
PIF is working to ensure that every motivated student, regardless of financial status, has access to the same music lesson experience as those who pay the teacher directly. PIF teachers usually come on board either because they've heard about PIF's mission and feel passionately about getting involved, or they have a particular student in mind who might be right for the program. Either way, we are grateful for your support!
To ensure a consistent experience for the students we sponsor, we require all PIF artist affiliates to be degreed professional musicians with significant teaching experience and demonstrable teaching success. Since we are a grassroots organization, it is also important that all of our artist affiliates are invested in our goals and philosophy.
If you think you would be a good fit for PIF, please send a resume, cover letter, and information about any student you may want to bring on board with you to info@playitforwardscholarship.org.
Duties of PIF teachers include:
1. Providing a weekly private lesson to your PIF student(s) in your regular studio.
2. Ensuring that PIF students receive the same private lesson experience as those who pay you directly.
3. Attending trainings and workshops with other PIF teachers.
4. Actively exchanging ideas and provide feedback, growing the program from the ground up.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I donate lessons?
Absolutely! While our donors sponsor the cost of our students' lessons by donating money, teachers are able to sponsor the cost of students' lessons by donating time. It's the ideal start to a Play It Forward chain, and is, in fact, how the concept started in our founder's studio. It is also possible to donate partial lessons. Donated lessons are considered an "in-kind" donation to the organization.
What lesson lengths do PIF scholarships cover?
Students and teachers can decide whether 30 or 60 minute lessons are the best fit.
Can my students apply for partial scholarships?
Yes. PIF students can receive half or full scholarships for 30 or 60 minute lessons. The number of volunteer hours is equivalent to the hours of lessons covered by the scholarship only.
Does PIF sponsor summer lessons or summer festivals?
Currently, PIF sponsors 14 lessons for each of two semesters per year: fall (September - December) and spring (January - May). We do not have summer scholarships in place as of yet, but plan to add them in the coming years.
I have or know of a student who would be perfect for PIF. How do I get them started?
Wonderful! Every case is a little different, so the best thing to do is to get in touch and talk with us directly. You can also feel free to share our website with a student or teacher you think might be a good fit, and have them get in touch with instead.
How is the pay rate for artist affiliates determined?
PIF pays teachers a set rate, which is based on a mid-range, fair market rate for each location. Occasionally, there are teachers who ordinarily charge more; those teachers generally view the difference as a contribution to our mission and as an in-kind donation to PIF. Due to budgeting restrictions, we are unable to pay alternate rates. In order to keep our hour-for-hour mission, teachers may not charge the students an additional fee on top of the scholarship rates. For more detailed information, please contact us.
What other requirements are there for artist affiliates?
Artist affiliates are required to provide proof of liability insurance. They must undergo abuse prevention training, or provide proof of completion of an acceptable abuse prevention training program.
